POSITION Under the supervision of the Classification Supervisor, performs a
SUMMARY: variety of tasks related to the classification of inmates.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent and three (3) years of experience as a correctional officer.
NHAC Certified Corrections Officer.
Good physical and mental health.
Ability to work as an individual and also as a team member.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability and willingness to follow orders promptly and accurately.
Ability to work all shifts.
Ability to work overtime as required, including double shifts and days off.
Ability to recognize potential behavior problems and to initiate preventive action.
Ability to interview inmates in a manner which promotes communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Classification Officer will be responsible for:
1. All duties as a correctional officer.
2. Following all federal, state and local laws.
3. Following departmental Operational Guidelines regarding assigned duties.
4. Knowledge of Local/Federal Court Documents.
5. Reporting for duty dressed in proper uniform.
6. Demonstrating his/her knowledge of accepted correctional practices through the utilization of the Strafford County Department of Corrections Operational Guidelines.
7. Ensuring that the classification system is defensible and based on accepted corrections theory.
8. Interviewing and classifying inmates accurately, efficiently, and fairly using Strafford County Operational Guidelines.
9. Using judgment and experience to occasionally override classification assignments based on a formalized objective classification system.
10. Reclassifying inmates as needed.
11. Actively participate on the Classification Committee hearings or Goodtime Committee hearings.
12. Responding to inmate requests.
13. Having NCIC inquiries ran as needed.
14. Referring inmates to the Programs Department and/or TC when they are court ordered to do TC, get into a treatment program, and complete an in house program in order to be released, work release or child care release.
15. Communicating with Strafford County Community Correction Case Managers when an inmate is eligible for AHC, Step-down or Bail Supervision Program.
16. Processing inmate workers approval forms to work and emailing the information out to the facility and kitchen when approved.
17. Approving and denying inmate worker requests for contact visits and emailing the approved contact visiting list out for the weekend and post in Booking.
18. Being the Liaison for NH State Prison females and male inmates housed here.
19. Completing the Monthly Sex Offender Report and forwarding it to NHSP Sex Offender Registry.
20. Printing the Sex Offender Registry Form and placing it in the Inmate Booking Folder to be completed at discharge.
21. Completing Inmate Progress Reports.
22. Reviewing all booking folders, updating the OMS, calculating County Sentences.
23. Contacting the Courts to clarify court paperwork or request court paperwork.
24. Having a professional working relationship with Courts, Police Departments, Probation and Parole Office, County Jails, County Attorney’s Office, Public Defenders Office, UMS, ICE, BOP, DCYF, NHSP, and Parole Board.
25. Participating in video court hearings as needed.
26. Scanning court orders and any other important paperwork into the OMS.
27. Arranging administrative transfers when necessary.
28. Speaking and meeting with inmates.
29. Performing any and all other duties as assigned.
