NOTICE:

TO: Legal Representatives
FROM: Chris Brackett, Superintendent
RE: Privileged correspondence

Recently, the Strafford County Department of Corrections has encountered issues with "legal mail" being sent to the facility. Specifically, we have received mail, appearing to be legal in nature, that is treated with a substance that erodes at the safety and security of the facility and those whom are incarcerated.
In an effort to strengthen that security and safety, we will be enacting a new policy.

All incoming "privileged correspondence" will be opened, photo copied, provided the copy of said "privileged correspondence", and originals will be shredded in the presence of the inmate. The entire process will be conducted on camera and recorded.

Strafford County's new process is an action that is intended to enhance security and safety of those both
incarcerated and working within the building while providing the expectation of privacy those incarcerated are entitled to.

Sincerely,
Chris Brackett
Superintendent
Strafford County Department of Corrections
