The needs and concerns of crime victims deserve special attention. Victims often experience emotional distress as a result of crime, fear, anger, depression and guilt are not uncommon reactions. Witnesses also often feel fear, confusion and anxiety about what they have seen; and what will be required of them by the criminal justice system. In order to help you or your family cope with your exposure to crime, my office has established a Victim\Witness Assistance Program.

If you are a victim of a crime, we want to be sure that you are not revictimized by the system. If you are a witness to a crime we want you to feel proud to have performed your civic duty and not feel as though you have wasted your time. We want to insure that both victims and witnesses are kept informed about the progress of the case in which they are involved.

The criminal justice system depends upon the cooperation and assistance of victims and witnesses. We want you to know that your efforts are greatly appreciated. On behalf of the Office of the Strafford County Attorney,  I want to thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Sincerely,

             Emily Garod, Strafford County Attorney
